Sandra Lee Patterson House, beloved wife of Lester House, devoted mother to Charles (Anna), and cherished "Honey" to her grandchildren, Charlotte and Houston, peacefully passed away on December 4, 2023, in Athens, GA.
Born on August 2, 1951, in Newport, RI, Sandra's life journey was one of unwavering dedication and passion. She pursued her academic ambitions, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Georgia College in 1973 and later obtaining a Master's in Education in 1995, embodying a commitment to both learning and teaching.
Sandra's impact as an educator spanned across elementary and middle schools in Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. Her dedication to her profession was exemplified by her National Board Certification in 2003, a testament to her excellence and commitment to her students.
Upon retirement, Sandra continued to enrich her community. Her days were filled with purpose as she generously volunteered at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and shared her passion for art as a docent at the Georgia Museum of Art.
Creativity flowed through Sandra's veins, whether she was crafting beautiful pillows or delighting loved ones with her delectable desserts. Her craft room and kitchen were places of warmth and joy.
Beyond her professional and creative pursuits, Sandra's devotion to her family was immeasurable. Her love for her sister, Charlene Kipe (Jack), and nephew, John (Jamie), extended beyond blood ties, creating a tapestry of cherished memories and shared moments.
In the words of Flannery O'Connor, Sandra's life was a testament to the notion that "Accepting oneself does not preclude an attempt to become better." Her resilience, wisdom, and unwavering spirit will forever inspire those who know her.
Sandra Patterson House's legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the knowledge she imparted, and the love she shared.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Highway, Athens, GA 30606.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church, 3195 S. Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
