He was born February 26, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Salvatore and Kathryn Friscia. Richard attended Georgia Tech majoring in engineering and joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1943, where he was immediately appointed a Flight Officer. Based in Great Britain, he flew over 30 sorties in France during World War II, and was awarded an air medal with first, second, and third oak leaf clusters in 1945. He was discharged as a Lieutenant and was later awarded the French Legion of Honor for his service to France at the Georgia State Capitol.
He was married to Sally Sperazi Pipitone for 63 years. They settled in Athens, GA and owned two high end clothing businesses, Town and Campus and Town and Travel. Dick was a member of the Athens Country Club since 1955. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sally, his two daughters, Kathryn and Mara Leah, and his sister, Joan Pipitone Vaughn.
Surviving members of his family are his grandchildren, Alex Moore of Marietta, Monique Moore of Marietta, their sister, Meagan Moore of Dallas, and their father, Don Moore of Atlanta; nephews, Rick and Buddy Vaughn of Atlanta; niece, Cathy Whitworth and her husband, Gerry, of Athens, their sons, Jason and Grant Whitworth of Atlanta and Athens; sister-in-law, Maria Burke of New York, and nieces, Claudia West and Marina Burke of New York.
A service of remembrance will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m., at UGA Catholic Center. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park with a Military Salute.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Carson, Arthur Bastidas, Bill Ball, Paul Totis, Buddy Vaughn, Rick Vaughn, and Gerry, Jason, and Grant Whitworth.
