Born in Oconee County on December 23, 1949, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert R. Peterson and was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl Griffith. Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Peterson.
Mr. Peterson attended Oconee County High School, Georgia Southwestern State University, and the University of Georgia majoring in AG Engineering and AG Mechanical Technology.
In 1970, he started Feimster-Peterson Inc., an industrial painting and coatings corporation which he operated for 35 years. His company became the first open shop certified by The National Labor Department for Journeyman Painters.
For 20 years, he was an active member and officer of the regional and national level Painting and Decorating of America (PDCA) and National Trade Organization. Mr. Peterson was instrumental in establishing the Guardian ad Litem for Foster Children and spearheaded the Foster Parents Association in Clarke County.
Mr. Peterson was a member of the United States Army Reserve 357th Headquarters Company, 357th Battalion. He attended Southside Church with his family which is located near where his great-grandfather settled after immigrating from Denmark.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Butler Peterson of Athens; son, Samuel Drake Peterson; daughter, Katherine Rhiner; and step-children, Jenna Mauldin and Jake Butler.
Funeral services will be held 4PM Sunday, July 5th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3-4PM Sunday prior to the service.
