He was born on August 13, 1920 and raised in Macon, Ga.
O.C. Howington was married to the late Helen Jordan Howington of Athens, Ga. They were happily married 72 years.
He is a Christian first and active servant for his Lord and Savior with his passion for sharing his faith with others. He served at Forest Heights Baptist Church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He proudly served his Country during the Second World War as a member of the United States Army. He loved gardening, especially his vegetables, which he shared with everyone, and just loved outdoors and “playing in the dirt.”
O.C. is survived by his younger sister, Elizabeth "Beth" Tabor; his daughter, Pat H. Johnson and husband, Rex Johnson of Watkinsville, Ga.; and son, Bobby Howington and wife, Dianne H. Howington of Watkinsville, Ga.; his grandchildren, Tonia Askew, Robert Askew, David Howington and Christopher and wife, Leandra Howington; his great-grandchildren, Nicky Williams, Melissa Rudolf and her husband, Charlie, Georgia and Mia Howington; great-great grandchildren, Taylin, Brennin, Brogen, Maddie, C.J. and Jasey; and his daughter in Christ, Carletta Brown, that so faithfully cared for him.
A Service to celebrate his life will be held at Forest Heights Baptist Church, 1155 Oglethorpe Ave., Athens, Ga., on Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held at Bernstein’s Funeral Home on Friday, June 2 from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Forest Heights Baptist Church, or Gideons International.
