Mary Katherine (Doherty) Urban, 72, of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022, from cancer. Mary was born on May 25, 1950, to Hector and Katherine Doherty in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She attended Divine Child in Dearborn, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Dennis Urban.
After high school, Mary enlisted in the United States Army. She spent one year in Texas and was honorably discharged. After her service, Mary returned home to assist her large family. She attended Henry Ford Community College where she received her Associate Degree in Nursing.
Mary resided in many states over the years including Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, and Illinois. She called Georgia home for the past eighteen years. Mary actively worked as a registered nurse until 2004. She once held a nursing license in six states!
Mary loved to be involved in the community around her. She didn’t shy away from volunteering for committees or initiating fun gatherings for her book or euchre clubs. She truly enjoyed being a past captain and member of the Fore Fun Ladies group. She was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro and member of the St. Mary’s Auxiliary group.
She loved planning and taking trips with her husband, family, and friends including trips to Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Italy, and a cruise down the Danube. Mary always remembered birthdays and anniversaries. She really should have invested in Hallmark years ago. She was also known to have a lead foot and is believed to have set the land speed record between Chicago and Detroit on I-94.
Mary is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dennis Urban; her three children, Elizabeth (Ryan) Cody, Dale (Amy) Urban, and David (Morgan) Urban; four grandchildren, Katie Cody, Quinn Urban, Allison Cody, and Daniel Urban; six siblings, Michael (Mary) Doherty, Patrick Doherty, Dennis (LeeAnn) Doherty, Judith Austin, Kathleen (William) Merrill, and Margaret (Rick) Dresler; and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
