She was the 11th and last child born to the late Michael and Anna Lucas Benetin of Greenville, PA. She grew to adulthood on the Benetin family farm. She graduated from St. Michael’s School in Greenville, PA in 1948. She graduated from Mercyhurst College (now Mercyhurst University) in Erie, PA in 1952 with a BA degree, majoring in Biology, minoring in Chemistry and English. Upon graduating, she was employed at the hospital in Greenville, PA in the Pathology Department as a technician. Mary Ann and Joseph Golub were married in September of 1952. After their first son was born on August 11, 1953, she became a full-time homemaker.
Survivors include their children: Joseph Golub of Tucson, AZ, William Golub of Warren, OH, Gregory (Robin Repass) Golub of Atlanta, GA, Mary Jo Rushing of Fort Pierce, FL, Thomas (Kristin) Golub of Johns Creek, GA, Paul Golub of Athens, GA and Larry (Gretchen) Golub of Williamsburg, VA; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph, predeceased her in 2018.
Mary Ann had many great joys in her life including music, both classical and contemporary musicals, and great choral works. From an early age, she was trained in piano and voice and sang in choirs and did solo work. She was a charter member of the Athens Choral Society. She also loved gardening and was a conservator of the environment. Other loves were reading, both fiction and non-fiction, and travel. Her greatest joys and all-consuming passions were found in her family and faith.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 1, at 11:00 a.m., at The Catholic Center at the University of Georgia. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home.
