A mass of Christian burial will be held 11AM Wednesday, October 3rd at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens with Father Daniel O’Connell officiating. Burial will held Friday, October 5th in Gardnersville, KY.
Mrs. Rose was born May 8, 1933 in New York, NY to the late Henry A. Smith and Margaret Shea Smith. She graduated from Cathedral High School and later worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a clerk when she met and married her husband, “Charlie” Rose. The couple later moved to Columbus, GA in 1959 and Margaret worked for many years at Benning Hills Elementary School as the administrative assistant to the principal. She was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for over 50 years where she served many terms as an officer on the Parish Council. In later years, Margaret traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She especially loved to visit her family’s native homeland, Ireland. She also loved the theater and attended many performances over the years. Her brother, Edmund Smith and sister, Joan Brunner preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Paul Rose, Jr and wife, Lisa of Colonels Island, GA; Stephen Matthew Rose and wife Helen of Bethlehem, GA, and Timothy James Rose of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, Robert Smith of Oceanside, CA; grandchildren, Hallie Taft of Richmond Hill, GA, Allison McCranie of Byron, GA, Tyler Rose of Americus, GA, Cristy Busby of Dawson, GA, Blane Foster of Gonzalez, LA, Taylor Rose of Lawrenceville, GA, and Catherine Rose of Lawrenceville, GA, and 4 great-grandchildren, Addison McCranie, Cason Taft, Abigail Busby, and Alexa Foster.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1953 Torch Hill Rd, Columbus, GA 31903.
