Born in Louisville, KY, Leslie moved to the Athens area with her family in 1964. A 1980 graduate of Oconee County High School, Leslie went on to graduate with a BSRN from Emory University.
She is preceded in death by her father John Keirce Kimbel, Sr., and her mother Jane Frances Kimbel.
She is survived by her brother John Keirce Kimbel, Jr., (Jack), his wife Terri, and her nephews, Keirce and Peyton, as well as, her beloved Aunt Judith, several cousins, her fur babies Hula and JB, and her chosen family, Sharla Smith, Michele (Lee) Fortson, and Angela (Chris) Whitehead.
Leslie was a third generation RN, following her mother, two aunts and maternal grandmother. Early in her career she worked as a labor and delivery nurse, then moved to Hospice Care, followed by her most recent position as Health Service Administrator at the Athens-Clarke County jail.
Her zest for life and her generous giving spirit impacted the lives that she touched throughout her career. She was a cherished friend to many full of love, and her contagious laugh will never be forgotten. Les was known for her tan and her larger-than-life personality. She loved pool days, trips to the beach, cocktails, Georgia Bulldog football, and the Kentucky Derby. As a veteran Parrothead, she introduced many people to Jimmy Buffet. We all look forward to hearing her say “hey honey” when we see her again.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2021, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Thomas Cotton Gin, 3753 Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville, GA.
