A native of Morganfield, KY, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late Buford Minton and Medora Hampton Minton. She served as a dietician with Clarke County Schools in Georgia and Clay County Schools in Kentucky. Mrs. Thompson was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church in Lexington, KY and while living in Athens, she was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a three-time cancer survivor.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by siblings, Anne, Evelyn, Dennie (Boss), Bennie (Bess), Virginia, Alma and Ralph.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 60 years, Don Thompson of Statham; daughter and son-in-law, Gerrie Sue and Clifford Chappell of Pleasant Hill, CA; sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Diane Thompson of Mount Pleasant, SC and Brad and Cherie Thompson of Statham; grandchildren, Molly Chappell, Morgan Chappell (Norma), Rachel Owings, Clay Thompson, Laura-Anne Thompson, Lane Thompson (fiance’ Korbyn) and Madison Thompson; great-grandchildren, Alice and Gianna.
Mrs. Thompson dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 28 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Karen Radcliffe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services in Kentucky will be held Saturday, September 30 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
