Mr. Adams was a graduate of Stratford Academy, the University of Georgia, and completed his education with a Masters Degree in Psychology from Georgia College and State University. He worked for his family business, Adams Distributing Company, in Macon before relocating to Athens in 1997. Mr. Adams worked in Human Resources for the University of Georgia until 2012. Affectionately known as “Johnsie,” Mr. Adams was happiest spending time with his family, reading, and riding his horse, Tuxedo.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Adams Ramsey, his children, Elinor “Ellie” Marie Adams and Howell Hayes Adams, and the mother of his children, Louise “Tootsie” Terrell Adams. Mr. Adams is also survived by his siblings, Lucia Adams Comer of Athens, Howell Atkins Adams of Macon, and Anne Adams Sides (Allen) of Las Vegas, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, his older brother, Robert Edwards Adams, Jr., and his beloved King Charles Spaniel, Winston.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. The family will welcome guests afterwards in the fellowship hall.
