She was preceded in death by her husband of over 56 years, Jack Roles Palmer, D.V.M., M.D.; her daughter, Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Doyle, and her son, Jack Roles Palmer, Jr. Additionally, her parents, Rosalie Brown Boyd and George Hugh Boyd, Sr., Ph.D., and brothers, George Hugh Boyd, Jr., M.D., and Augustus (Gus) Brown Boyd, M.D., preceded her.
She is survived by her twin sister, Jane Boyd Martin (C.D.) of Oak Ridge, TN; her daughter, Betty's husband, John R. Doyle; her beloved grandson, John William Doyle of Athens, and two nieces and five nephews.
Jean graduated from the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She received her bachelor's degree in fine arts, with a specialty in piano. She performed her graduation recital, accepted her degree the next day, and was married the following day.
She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Athens where she was extremely active in church affairs.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, January 2, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Athens, GA., followed by burial at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
The family wishes to express our gratitude and thanks to Rena Baldwin, Maria Camen, Faye Powers, and Rhonda Rhymes who provided exceptional care over Jean’s last days, weeks, and months.
