A native of Lockwood, Missouri, Mrs. Barron was the daughter of the late James and Alva McNeill. She moved to Georgia when she married James R. Barron of Atlanta, and has lived in Valdosta, Waycross, Macon, and Winterville. She began working in the insurance industry at INA in Macon, and retired from Underwood and Associates in Valdosta.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James R. Barron; brother, Howard McNeill; sisters, Maxine Gum, Hazel Stall, and Bonnie Olson. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Paul) Platus of Lilburn, GA and Lora (Ronnie) Hubbard of Winterville, GA; grandchildren, Kristi Fitzsimmons, Jamie Platus, Jennifer Scott, Jay Hubbard, and John Hubbard; 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Barron was devoted to her family and friends, was an avid gardener and reader, and loved to travel. She was active in the Methodist church, most recently Tuckston United Methodist in Athens, and also participated in many social and charitable organizations.
A private family service will be held at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta where she will be placed beside her husband.
