Her father was one of the many members of the Midgett family who served in the Coast Guard in the Outer Banks and Virginia Beach area. In fact, the US Coast Guard Cutter Midgett, was named in their honor in 2019. Jane attended Oceana High School in Oceana, Virginia, where she starred on the basketball team and played on an AAU travel team. She was formerly married to Dewey Stanley Milligan and they had two children, Suzanne, who currently lives in Elizabeth City, NC, and Marc, who resides in Virginia Beach.
Later she married Lynn Flach of Crescent City, Illinois, who was in the Navy and stationed at NAS Oceana when they met. The four of them then set out on the adventure of a typical young Navy family, living in Iceland, Spain and Hawaii among their many stops. Along the way she had two more sons, Gordon and Paul, and they finally settled down in Athens in 1981 where Lynn retired as a Captain from the Navy after his final appointment as the Commanding Officer of the Supply Corps School. They built their home in Athens in 1982 and she lived there the rest of her life, enjoying golf, tennis and bridge with her many friends that she loved so dearly.
She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Athens.
Jane is survived by all four of her children, Suzanne, Marc, Gordon (Jill) and Paul (Carrie) as well as four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She will be missed and remembered by her family and friends as a witty, sharp and kind soul who loved watching sports, playing bridge and her 5:15 martini.
The family will be having a private service.
