Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Timothy L. and Ellen Ogletree Michael and was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Louise Jordon Michael and siblings Annie Dailey, Sue Huff, Hazel Bradberry, Jack Michael and Hubert Michael.
Mr. Michael grew up in Oconee County, picking cotton in his neighbor’s fields to earn money for school clothes. He and his younger brother brought up wood for the school stove to earn a lunch for that day. He began working in the Athens Creamery while in high school and upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completing his enlistment he returned home where he met and married his wife Louise.
He took a job at a local heating and air company while also attending the University of Georgia Business School, however, this was cut short by the arrival of his first child. Ultimately he found a career with the US Postal Service and while his children were in high school he went back to school and received his diploma for heating and air. For several years he continued to work at the post office while building his young business. Finally, after taking an early retirement he pursued his business with a passion.
James was an incredibly strong man, with an unbelievable work ethic. He had an endless love and dedication to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always kind and very giving to everyone. He was a force on this earth and his absence will leave a huge void for all that knew and loved him, especially his family.
He was a graduate of Oconee Co. High School and a very active and dedicated member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church until the illness of his wife, at which time in addition to his business he became her caretaker.
Survivors include daughters Barbara Michael of Athens and Shirley Ann Michael and husband Dave Lindsey of Watkinsville, sister Jean Letson of Ft Lauderdale, FL., brother Donald Michael of Bishop; grandchildren Brittany Nicole Wales, Christopher James Michael and Ashley Ann Michael.
