James Alfred “Jake” Holcomb, 95, of Athens, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018. Born in Hull, GA, Mr. Holcomb was a son of the late James and Beulah Holcomb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea “Dot” Moore Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb was a member of Prince Ave. Baptist Church, a proud WW II Veteran, a member of Athens VFW, and a true Georgia Bulldog. He loved life and his family. Jake had a great personality very few would forget. He loved joking and laughter and when he walked into the room it would brighten up.
Survivors include daughter, Sandra Holcomb-Wahl of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Dr. John Heffernan of Dawsonville, GA; grandchildren, Ashleigh-Anne Wahl Fiocchi (Tim), Fairleigh Wahl Johnson (Shane), Spencer Wahl, Holly Branum (Scott), Kristin Baugh (Steven) and Andrew Heffernan; great-grandchildren Dasia Alexis, Tristin, Allie, Karolina, Valor, Baylor, Jake, Katie, Davis, Larkin, Chandler, Griffin and Sadie. Mr. Holcomb had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 4 at 2 PM at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friend from 12 noon to 1:30 pm prior to the service at Bernstein Funeral Home. Following the graveside service friends a welcome to come back to the funeral home for refreshments.
