After a courageous struggle with cancer, James (Jim) Edward Creech, 61, died on October 17, 2010. Jim was born in Charleston, SC, to Annabelle D. and George Creech. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the Atlanta College of Art, a Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master of Architecture from Georgia Tech. Jim had a distinguished career with the federal government ranging from documenting archeological sites in the Alaskan wilderness to working with the National Park Service revitalizing the Tuskegee National Historic site in Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Stangle, of Athens, GA, and her daughters Elise and Anna Stangle; his daughter, Julie Creech Bishop, formerly of Mount Pleasant, SC, now residing in Grapevine, TX, and her husband Matt and sons, Ryne and Zachary; his brother, Dennis Creech, of Atlanta, GA, and his wife Caroline Pendergrast and daughter, Tess; his sister-in-law, Nancy Creech, of Greenville, SC, and son, Nicholas; and his mother, Annabelle D. Creech, of Edisto Island, SC. He was preceded in death by his father, George Creech, and brother, George Russell Creech.
Jim was an artist throughout his life, bringing beauty to the world, and was loved for his keen wit and kindness, and was respected by all around the family game table.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 31 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 780 Timothy Rd., Athens, GA 30606.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to two nonprofit organizations that Jim passionately supported: the Athens Land Trust, 685 North Pope St., Athens, GA 30601, or the Southface Energy Institute, 241 Pine St., Atlanta, GA 30308.
