Watkinsville, GA—Jack Fulton Joyner, 94, passed away in his home on Monday, October 10, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born May 29, 1928, in Columbia, South Carolina. He lived in the south for most of his life where he and his wife, Margaret Staton Joyner of 72 years, raised their children, instilling in them the importance of family and a sense of pride in service to others.
He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a Southern States mission at the age of 16. His service to the church continued through various callings and spanned more than 70 years. He was proud to have served in the United States Air Force. After his military service he worked for the South Carolina Highway Department for many years and served as an auditor for the Interstate Commerce Commission. In retirement he served on the Board for the Oconee County Department of Family and Child Services. He and Margaret married on September 9, 1950 and began their family shortly thereafter. The two most important things in his life were his love of the Lord and of love for his family. He would spend hours telling all who would listen about his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Cataloging his family history was an integral part of the fabric of his character and he sure could tell a good story.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Joyner of Watkinsville, GA, and their eight children: Rhonda Smith of Ochlocknee, GA; Paula and Marvin Evans of Watkinsville, GA; Greg and Becky Joyner of Conyers, GA; Eric and Lori Joyner of Melbourne, FL; Lynn and Lisa Joyner of Watkinsville, GA; Kent and Christal Joyner of Sumrall, MS; Dexter and Mary Joyner of Watkinsville, GA; and Nathan and Suzette Joyner of Oviedo, FL; also 33 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents: Oliver and Lottie Joyner; his five siblings; his son-in-law, Randal Smith; and his grandson, Daniel Joyner.
