A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Drewry was the daughter of the late Walter M. Lee and Julia H. Lee and was preceded in death by sister, Lil Lee Chatwin; a half-brother, Charles Junior Lee, and brother, Starr T. Lee, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Mrs. Drewry married Hayden L. Drewry April 30, 1948 and moved to Parkway Drive in Athens where she lived for many years. Widowed on September 7, 1956, she began her career as a single mother of three while working in data processing at the University of Georgia and Kendall Company. After a brief retirement, she worked as a door greeter at Sam’s Club.
Polly, as she was affectionately called by her family, learned well from her mother how to fry fabulous chicken and could make a lemon pie rivaled only by her mother’s. She loved to crochet, as evidenced by the many crocheted angels on her Christmas tree, enjoyed cross word puzzles, and especially enjoyed entertaining at the family home place on Georgia football game days. She especially loved babies, chocolate ice cream, and Chad, her Yorkshire Terrier.
Survivors include her three children, Frank Drewry (Lou Ann) of Johns Creek, Beth Smith of Athens, and Hayden Drewry (Linda) of Athens; five grandchildren, Anna Egipto (Lem), Lindsay Drewry, Nichole Scott (Derek), Thomas Lee Drewry, and Sherri O’Mahoney (Matt), and six great-grandchildren, Asher Egipto, Jackson Scott, Clayton Scott, Anniston Scott, Sara O’Mahoney, and Ryan O’Mahoney. Mrs. Drewry is also survived by brothers, Harry O. Lee (Mae) of Oconee County and Chester R. Lee (Anne) of Oconee County, and John W. Lee (Alice) of Augusta, GA, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 5PM Sunday, July 3rd in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev Tom Grady officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-5PM prior to the service at Bernstein.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Athens Y Camp Scholarship Fund, C/O YMCA of Athens, 915 Hawthorne Ave, Athens, GA 30606.
