A native of Athens, Mrs. Goulet was the first baby to be born by cesarean section at the old St. Mary’s Hospital on Milledge Avenue on May 16, 1923. Her parents were the late William Thomas Broxton and Janie Katharine Quillian Broxton and she was preceded in death by husband, Charles Edward Goulet, son, Danny Goulet, and brother, Clifford Quillian Broxton. She was a mother and homemaker until her children left home at which point she worked for the Clerk of Court in Athens-Clarke County. Mrs. Goulet attended Chapelwood Methodist Church and volunteered at Athens Regional Medical Center for a number of years.
Survivors include children, Thomas Goulet and wife, Bridget of Staten Island, New York, Elizabeth Mayfield and husband, Sanford of Jefferson, Georgia, Kathryn Goulet of Athens, Georgia, Sharon Nester of Athens, Georgia, Mike Goulet and wife, Tina of Seneca, South Carolina, and Bonnie Kent of Monroe, Georgia, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Kent, Jeremiah Nester, Jeff Kent, Clay Mayfield, Chris Mayfield, Jason Mobley, and David Mayfield.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Wednesday, December 23rd in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Pastor Dane Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2PM prior to the service.
