She was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee on October 27, 1937 to the late James and Sara Becker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James David “Jim” Holtz; brother, Jim Becker; and brother-in-law, David Norman.
She is survived by her husband Hal (of 58 years); her son, Fred (Marci) of Newbury Park, CA; and her daughter, Lynn Sandry (Jim); and grandsons, Steve and Matt Sandry of Peachtree Corners, GA. She is also survived by her sisters, Lucy Collins (Ken), and Mary Helen Welch (Mitchell); brother, Sloan Becker (Diane); and sisters-in-law, Ernestine Becker and Sandra Norman and several nephews and nieces.
She loved her family and many friends. She was a faithful servant to her God and her church, Athens First United Methodist Church, where she was an active member for over 50 years. She enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally, playing card games, especially bridge, and swimming regularly. Eleanor attended Sullins College and graduated from the University of Mississippi.
A memorial service will be held at Athens First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24. A reception will follow the service.
