A native of Greeneville, TN, Mrs. Fox was the daughter of the late Herbert B. Cook and Naomi Bird Cook. After working a short time for American Greetings, she became a homemaker who lovingly cared for her husband and son. She was the matriarch of the family for many years, enjoying holiday preparation, family gatherings, cooking, and friends. She was a bowler involved in a local women’s league, and avid golfer playing many years with husband Carl, close friends, and club leagues. As a young girl, Dorothy sang in a Gospel quartet, the Friendly Four, which led to their making a record. Mrs. Fox also loved gardening, canning, and beautiful flowers in and outside of her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wilford Fox; two brothers, L.B. Cook and Jackie B. Cook; and a sister, Joyce I. Cook.
Survivors include son, Carl D. Fox; brothers, Boyd Cook (Peggy), H.A. Cook (Julia), and Bobby Cook (Nita); two grandchildren, Rebekah C. Butcher (Leon) and Carl Logan Fox (Havilah); and two great-grandchildren, Elon Butcher and Eden Butcher.
A small graveside service for family and friends will be held Saturday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m., at Barrow Memorial Gardens, 793 Atlanta Hwy., SE, Winder.
