I am shocked as I just read of the passing of my Sigma Pi fraternity brother at the University of Georgia. We met in Fall 1971 at our house on Milledge and have been friends since 1971. I m,et his parents once and we had classes trough the MBA program. He did accounting work fr me later and he was a great friend and a getleman always. He will be missed. 

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Charlie’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. 

Having grown up in the neighborhood with Charlie and Betty, I knew that there were camellias down the terrace from the Bonners’ house.  Beginning in 2002, Charlie graciously allowed me, on behalf of the Georgia Museum of Art, to cut anything I needed for the biennial Henry D. Green Symposium of the Decorative Arts.  Attendees at each of ten conferences have delighted in those glorious flowers arranged in front of the podium.  

I did not have the privilege of knowing Charles. I did know his parents. They were very kind to me when I was a student at UGA and attended First Baptist, in part because they were just good, kind people and in part because I was from Meriwether County, as was Mrs. Bonner. Her father was a revered physician who made house calls to many people I have known through the years. He delivered at least one of my wife's siblings at their rural  Meriwether County home. From reading the obituary and seeing his big smile, I can tell that Charles was like his forbears -- productive, involved and loved. My prayers are with you all.

Well I spent four years in Athens and never knew there was a cemetery on the other side of Sanford Stadium. When I turned in I started laughing thinking if anyone was to be buried by Sanford Stadium it’s going to be Charlie! 
I met a few people before and after the service, all were talkative with stories. 
Betty, I am sorry to have missed you and the family, but hope our paths cross again sometime. 



It is sad for the loss of another great classmate from the 1970 class of AHS.  Hal and I always enjoyed our conversations especially when we could talk of our trips to Germany and UGA football. He was too young.  Prayers to his family.  Hal and Gisela Hodgson

Dear Betty and family,

We were so saddened and shocked by the unexpected passing of your unique and cherished brother, Charlie.  He was a dear and treasured friend for over 40 years.  We will miss him, his humor, his sharp wit, and his encyclopedic knowledge of everything Georgia. His chair in my living room, where we watched many a football game, will be a constant reminder of so many good memories.

I have very fond memories of Charlie when we were growing up and especially at First Baptist Church! Charlie’s family lived in the next house up the hill from my family. Our parents knew each other well, and I have many fond memories of his family. Deepest condolences on behalf of the Chaffin family to Betty, his Faircloth cousins, and all his family and loved ones.

Charlie visited the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art one day many years ago and essentially never left us. He was here to stay after he found out that Steffen was born in Germany and that German themes were a major influence in his art. Charlie was a loyal supporter and board member of STMA for many years. He loved the Museum and we loved him.  He will be missed very much.

Charlie  was absolutely one of a kind! He was among a 15+\-group that welcomed me to Athens through what I thought was a 1st Methodist singles  class . I met my husband who was peripherally with the group, and thus I came to know 3 people who are treasured life friends plus Charlie, who was always “there” at tailgates, parties, and important events. His parents are treasured in my family for their role as substitute grands each 4th of July. Charlie always made me laugh and smile; I wish his remaining family peace & knowledge that Charlie had friends who cared much. Sadly I wish one of us had been with him at the end. God bless you Charlie. 

Charlie was one of a kind. We were classmates all through school in Athens. It was always a pleasure to run into him and I am sure all our classmates will miss him dearly.  My deepest sympathy to the family.

Charlie was my 1st cousin.  We had many many fun family times together. Growing up we alternated visiting each other’s home every other  Sunday night for our weekly dinners.  Charlie was invaluable  in checking on Bill’s  and my mother when she lived alone.  They would entertain each other  on an almost nightly basis. Conversations with Charlie were lively and informative whether they were about opera or his travels and  I will remember them with joy. I will miss you Charlie.

I've known Charlie for the many years since attending UGA. He always greeted me with a smile. I pray that Jesus will accept him in this next life change. 

Dan and I have been blessed to have known Charlie as our accountant and dear friend for many years. Charlie was Dan’s accounting professor at UGA years ago and Dan and he have been friends ever since. We are heart broken to hear of the passing of our dear friend. We extend our deepest sympathies to his sister and other family members. We will miss our dinners together at Bonefish and remember him whenever we eat at Pappadeaux’s—a restaurant to which he introduced us and which became our favorite. We’ll miss his tales of his trips to Germany and the opera. We’ll miss his infectious laugh  and his patience with us as he did our taxes year after year. We hope to see him again on the other side some day.

I'm so profoundly saddened by news of Charlie's passing. He and I frequently chatted on Facebook and did so just last month. I have very fond memories of watching Georgia football games over at his house. I will miss him.
