Barbara Butler Self

Barbara Butler Self, 70, of Athens, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospice House on February 1, 2015. Mrs. Self was born August 24, 1944 to parents Otis Taylor Butler and Annie L. Seymour Butler. She was the loving and devoted wife of Ray Self for 50 years and the beloved mother of Melanie Lyle (Derrick), Mollie Self, and the late Michael Ray Self. She is survived by her husband, mother, two daughters, two grandchildren, Morgan Lyle and Josh Lyle, two sisters, Pat Saye and Mary Jane Wood, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Self was a 1962 graduate of Athens High School and Athens Technical College, where she received her Early Childhood Certification. She retired from Athens Christian School as a Pre-K teacher after twenty years of service. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00PM Tuesday, February 3rd at Bernstein Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3:00PM Wednesday, February 4th in the chapel at Bernstein with Ed Saye officiating.
