She was the oldest of nine children and helped in the fields as well as take care of each of her sisters and brothers, even after they were grown. She married Billy Doyle Long and moved to Rogersville, Alabama, where they raised their two children.
After Billy Doyle passed, she married Jimmy Thompson and lived in Lester the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lorene Hill, husbands, Billy Doyle Long and Jimmy Thompson, great granddaughter, Shyanne Williams, brothers, John David and Bennie Hill.
She is survived by her two children, Thomas Long (Judy) and Tammey Carter, four grandchildren, Chrissy Williams, Jason Williams, Billy Long and Malain Stanford; brothers James "Bud" Hill, George Hill; sisters Ann Owens, Sandra Fleming (Phillip), Myra Ridgeway, Marilyn Woolridge (Milton), six great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Mildred was known for her crafting abilities and was known for never meeting a stranger. She will be missed dearly by her family.
The funeral service will be Saturday, September 7 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Scott Pepper officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be at Hester’s Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Davis, Dustin Hill, Adam Hill, Allen Hill, Brandon Turner and Jeremy Fleming. Honorary pallbearers will be Derrick Hill, Jeff Hill, Billy Hill, Jonathan Fleming, Jared Fleming, Justin Ridgeway and Clint Harvey.
