John William King,Jr. passed away peacefully at his Athens, Alabama home on March 23, 2025, at the age of 76. John was born on September 24,1948 to John and Bonnelle King of Athens, Alabama and was the oldest of 3 children.
He is survived by Alice Gossett King, his wife, companion and best friend of 49 years, his brother Mike King, of Athens, Alabama, his sister Diane Flanagan King (Mike husband) of Tatum, Texas. John was blessed with one nephew, Dusty Flanagan (Keli wife and 2 children, Ethan and Lexi ) of Teague Texas, 2 nieces, Jodie Flanagan Morse (Mark husband and son Sawyer) of Kilgore Texas, and Chancelee Flanagan Edney (2 sons, Chance and Cason) of Tatum Texas.
John graduated from Athens High School and competed Track and Field, also at Calhoun Jr. College, achieving several track records. He worked at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant for 40 years and at various other consulting jobs post Nuclear related Plants in Arkansas, New Mexico and North Carolina for 10 more years. He served in the US Army Reserves.
He was interested in restoring C-2 Corvettes and Classic Cars. He was a lifelong avid member of the Athens Lion’s Den Gym, which was his home away from home. He was a talented artist, painting various birds of Nature.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Athens.
John resided and Alice presently resides on their farm in Athens, Al for the past 40 years, raising cattle, planting various crops, landscaping and gardening.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests any Memorial Gifts be made to the Athens Animal Shelter @alanimalservices.com. A Celebration of Life graveside service for John will be held on March 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Roselawn Cemetery, Brother Kasey Harbin, officiating Eulogy.
