Jean Mitchell Davis

Jean Mitchell Davis, age 82 of Athens, died Friday, August 2, 2013 at Athens Limestone Hospital. The visitation and funeral service will both be Sunday, August 3, 2013 at McConnell Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Hargrove officiating. The visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m.

Mrs. Davis was born July 17, 1931 in Little Rock, Arkansas to William Vanleer Merrell and Annie Gatlin Merrell. She was a member of Cash Point Baptist Church. In her early career she was co-owner of Nelson Burgers. She retired to help raise her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert (Terrapin) Davis.

Survivors include one son, Michael Mitchell and one daughter, Phyllis Grela both of Athens; one stepdaughter, Lisa Holland of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Brett Hogan and wife Chawnta of Ardmore, AL; Brooklyn Watson and husband Doug of Athens; Bree Grela of Huntsville; Bridgitt Grela of Florence, AL; Chad Mitchell of Toney, AL; and five great-grandchildren, Britain Watson, Abbigail Watson, Emma Watson, Hayden Hogan, and Keira Hogan.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy White, Harry McLin, Danny King, Donnie Barron, Marty Bruce, and Doug Watson.
