James C. King, 83 years of age, was born March 17, 1940 in Baltimore, MD. He died peacefully in his home, January 31, 2024, surrounded by his family. Jim was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Winterhaven, FL.
Jim joined the Navy in 1958 and served for almost 9 years. While in the navy, Jim heard the gospel and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and his life was forever changed. Jim married the love of his life, Patricia Beal, on June 12, 1961. On Thanksgiving day 1969, Jim and Pat and their four children arrived in Brazil, S.A. where they served the Lord as missionaries for 44 years. Their ministry included working with the Jaminaua Indian tribe, planting churches in interior cities and translation/printing ministry for national pastors. In 2014, Jim and Pat relocated their ministry to Orlando Florida where they continued to minister to Brazilian pastors through their Amigao do Pastor newsletter and printing ministry. Jim never retired and continued to use his gift of teaching by joining the prison ministry with his wife, Patricia. Jim loved digging into the Word of God and preparing lessons for his weekly visits to the prison.
Next to Jesus, his greatest love was the family he and Patricia were blessed to raise. Along with his wife Patricia, Jim is survived by his children Debbie Lynn, Dave King, (Susan) and Ruth Rutz (Calvin). Some of his greatest joys in life were his grandchildren Dava Trant, David Crabb, Lenita Alexander (Levi), Matthew Dennison (Christina), Marie Webster (Rachel), Ashley Henderson (Skyler) Autumn Cook (Austin), Andrew Clouse, Alex Dennison, and Danica Gwin (Andrew), and his great grandchildren Sennica Trant, Boston Trant, Grayson Winn, Cohen Butler, Sawyer Cook, Barrett Gwin, Kinsley Dennison, and two on the way. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rebekah Lee Patton.
Jim is greatly missed already and his family cherishes the Godly legacy he left them.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 10-11am at Woodmont Baptist Church in Florence, in the chapel. The funeral service will begin at 11am, with Pastor Richard Beal and Pastor Tony Elmore officiating, with Debbie Lynn and Dave King sharing thoughts and memories.
