A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 5th at 2pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm at the McConnell Funeral Home, 1200 E. Forrest St., Athens, AL.

James "Scooter" Crowley is survived by his wife of 27 years, Starr (Johnson) Crowley; daughters, Amber VanLith and Jennifer VanLith; son, Cody VanLith (Katherine); grandchildren: Mason Madding, Dakota Murphy, Tia Watkins, Caitlin Murphy, and Isaac VanLith; father, Gary Moyer; sister, Katrina Lee (Eric); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Moyer; daughter, Jacqueline Booker; aunt, Nancy Johnson; and mother-in-law, Kathleen Johnson.
James “Scooter” was born in Superior, WI and raised in Roosevelt, MN. He enlisted in the United States Navy on July 8, 1987. Honorably serving on active duty for 4 years as an electrical / mechanic equipment Airman. He served 2 of these years in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during Desert Storm. on July 7, 1991 he was released from active duty and transferred to Naval Reserve for an additional 2 years.
In 1994 he married Starr Johnson in Roseau, MN and they eventually settled in Athens, Alabama.
Throughout the years, James “Scooter” continued his education & training in the civilian sector obtaining “Master Technician” status, working for Freedom Sports and independent Harley Davidson Shops.
Scooter lived his daily life with passion few could match. He built his career on the things he loved: people & wrenching on motorcycles. He was very active in drag racing with the American Motorcycle Racing Association (ARMA). He was an avid fisherman with family & friends. He enjoyed wrestling and football and was known for his “Scooter Humor”. He loved music: he was the lead singer for a local band “Big Creek” Band which played at Biker Rallies, charity and volunteer events.
Scooter deeply loved his family, his military family, his work family, his motorcycle family and his community. But above all else, he loved his wife Starr. She was his shinning Starr, all encompassing love & joy. His rock.
James “Scooter” Crowley never met a stranger and always went the extra mile for anyone in need. In his daily walk of life he exuded Galatians 5:22-23 The fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith (believing), meekness, and temperance.
