The funeral service for Mr. Harwell C. Gregg, age 80 of Somerville, will be Sunday, Oct. 5th at 3 p.m. at Decatur Central Baptist Church with brother Robert Jackson and brother Edwin Hodges officiating. The visitation will be Sunday, from 1-3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Athens.
Mr. Gregg died Thursday, Oct. 2nd at the Princeton Baptist Medical Clinic in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lynwood B. Gregg.
He is survived by his wife Edwina Hodges Gregg; two sons, William Gregg, Andrew Gregg and wife Meghan; three daughters, Rebecca Gregg Duke and husband Mark; Amy Gregg McKay and husband Mike; Maria Gregg Bates and husband Dustin; one brother, Cecil C. Gregg; one sister, Betty F. Gregg; 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gregg was born March 16, 1934 in Marion County to Cecil Gregg and Margie Caudle Gregg. He was a graduate of Elkmont High School and Auburn University. He was a retired chemical engineer from 3M and a former deacon of Central Baptist Church and First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Dan Gregg, John Gregg, Steven Gregg, Andrew Gregg, Dustin Bates, and Delene Leak. Honorary pallbearers will be David Matthews, Fred Frickie, Bill Simrell, Ray Brown, Ricky Freeman, Jim McAllister, and David Woodruff.
