Carolyn Alice McCain

Carolyn was a Registered Nurse for 12 years and volunteered with Hospice of Limestone County for over 20 years and RSVP for 25 years. She was an active member of Isom's Chapel UMC for 39 years. She was also a Marine Corps and Army wife for over 28 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother "Giga", daughter, sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community. She lived a life of quiet service to God and to others. Her selflessness was matched only by her generosity. Her presence brought a peace and calmness when the storms of life rolled in. She truly lived her faith every minute of her life. She was the bravest and strongest woman we knew. She made life better by being in it.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father John Shenkle, mother Nellie Shenkle (Pentz), husband, LTC William T. McCain, Jr. (USA), daughter MAJ Michelle Thompson (USAF), as well as brothers Courtney, Dick and Bill and sister Betty.

She is survived by her sister Patty Fair, daughter Kim McCain, son Shawn McCain and daughter-in-law Jeannie. Grandchildren are Caitlin Groce, Daniel McCain and Anna McCain.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 23rd at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 PM at Isom's Chapel UMC 16230 Mooresville Road in Athens by Pastor Tony Jones and Brother Bill Stone. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens.
