Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and Dan, Bobby D. Fritts passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Restore Therapy Pavilion at Athens Health and Rehabilitation. Bob’s sunny disposition made him a friend to all and he will be sorely missed by everyone who had the honor to know him.
Bob (the name he preferred) was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on April 21, 1930 to Clyde and Mary Elizabeth Fritts. As a graduate of the University of Arkansas, he was an enthusiastic fan of the Razorbacks his entire life.
Bob loved the Lord and strived to be a Christian role model for his family. He attended the Baptist church for most of his life and served faithfully as Deacon, Usher, Sunday School leader, Youth Training Union teacher and any other job he was asked to take. After moving to Athens, he joined the fellowship of Athens First United Methodist Church.
Bob was a faithful provider for his family with a long career at Murphy Oil Corporation. He was the biggest supporter of his wife and children in their many pursuits. He could be found helping with homework, taking care of the home, or cooking a meal. He attended EVERY softball, baseball, soccer and football games in which his children and grandchildren competed.
Bob loved the outdoors and many vacations included camping trips with his family. Many memories were made at the lake while camping, water skiing and fishing. In addition, Bob enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandsons deer hunting, fishing and watching Razorback football games.
Survived by daughter, Cheryl F. Wiman (Mike), two sons Gregory D. Fritts, Sr. (Susan)and Gary C. Fritts; three grandsons who were Bob’s greatest joys, Gregory D. Fritts, Jr. (Lauren), Brandon D. Wiman (Sarah) and Clinton G. Fritts (Melissa); and one great-grandson, Matthew Fritts. Also, sisters-in-law Jerri Comer and Barbara Comer.
Bob was preceded in death by his treasured wife of 66 years, Bettye Fritts, his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James Clinton and Mary Kathleen Fritts, Jack and Paula Fritts; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Fritts.
Visitation is from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens. Graveside service to follow at Roselawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. led by Mary Stephenson.
