Sue was the youngest of 8 children.Her siblings were: Herbie, Joyce, Howard, Edward, Robert, Ernest and Emily. They were her best friends.Sue had three older half sisters: Ruth and Lissette/twins, and Harriet.
When Sue was 4 years old, their father passed away and the five youngest children were put on a greyhound bus and sent on a three day trip to California to their Grandparents’ and aunt’s houses.
After Sue turned five years old, the five children were placed in Church of Christ Children’s Home in Ontario, CA.
She started elementary school at Cypress Elementary and attended middle school at De Anza junior high.
Her high school years were spent at Chaffey high school and Chino high school.She was the homecoming queen of her senior year.She was highly intelligent and skipped a year of high school, graduating at 16 years old with honors.She entered Pepperdine University on a full academic scholarship.
In 1965, she married Roy Burleson. Together they had two children, Daniel Evan and Sandra Kaye.
In 1977, Sue married Jeffrey Starr. They had one son, RJ.
Sue was always a very happy little girl. She loved to help clean the girls dorm and living area at the children’s home where they all grew up. She loved doing crafts once her work was done. She once crocheted everyone a pair of slippers for Christmas. She loved driving her children to visit her brothers and sister and their children for weekends and summer trips.
She lived most of her life in Southern California but also spent several years in Washington and Idaho.
Sue's professional career was primarily in office management until she retired in 2013.
Her children were her most precious gifts. She was incredibly proud of their accomplishments. She was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren: Devon, KayCee, Jessie, Chloe, Mia, Noah, Gabriella, Kailee, Brady and Olivia.She was a great grandmother to 2 little boys: Xander and Wren.
In 2018 Sue moved to the central coast. She loved the ocean and living here.
She loved Jesus and knew that she would one day spend eternity with Him. She attended Cornerstone Community Church where she volunteered often.
She loved her friends. She enjoyed the parties, dancing at the wineries and going to concerts in the park. Most of all, she loved being with her children.
Sue went to reside with her Lord and Savior on April 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her siblings Ruth, Robert and Emily, her son Daniel and his wife Maria, her daughter Sandy and her husband Jim, her son RJ and his wife Amanda, as well as her 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
