Atascadero resident Robert "Bobby" James Dowdy passed away on February 17, 2015, as the result of a motorcycle accident. Known as Bobby to most of his family and Robert to most of his friends, he was 42. A tribute to Bobby's life will be held Saturday, February 21, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the AARP/Kiwanis building at the Atascadero Lake Park, 7848 Pismo Ave., Atascadero. Please bring a potluck dish and drop in between 1 and 5 p.m. to spend time with Robert's family and friends sharing memories. Bobby was born in San Jose, CA, on December 5, 1972. His childhood was spent in San Jose and Eureka, where he loved to play in "the Gulch" with his bothers. Bobby's family moved to Atascadero in 1980. He graduated from Atascadero High School. Robert married Amanda Chamberlin in August of 2012. If ever two people were perfect for each other, it was Robert and Amanda. Robert worked at Paris Precision in Paso Robles for the past four years as a spot welder. Robert loved riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed going on rides around the county with his mom and dad, Barbara and Bob Dowdy, and with Amanda on the seat behind him. Bobby also loved old cars. His favorite TV shows were those about history or items with interesting stories, like Pawn Stars and American Restoration. He had a great time visiting the American Restoration workshop in Las Vegas a few years ago. Bobby also loved anything to do with the Titanic. He was the epitome of a history nut. Robert loved music. Growing up, his favorite bands were Van Halen and Iron Maiden. He was excited that Motley Crue and Alice Cooper are coming to the Mid State Fair this year. After he met Amanda, Robert developed an appreciation and love of country music. His favorite singers were Brad Paisley, Mark Chesnutt, George Strait and Don Williams. Bobby and Amanda enjoyed going to concerts together, and he loved to go the extra mile to get VIP seats or meet and greets with the artists to make the shows special for them both. Bobby was a huge movie buff and was well known for being able to quote lines from hundreds of movies, even those he hadn't seen for years. He had an amazing memory when it came to movie dialog. Some of his favorite movies (there are too many to list) were Highlander, Up The Creek, Despicable Me, the Blind Side, Stripes, Yellowbeard, Airplane, and the Police Academy series. Many family events were made more lively by Bobby's famous movie quotes. Every year, Robert hoped that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers would win the Superbowl. Most years, he was disappointed. Thank goodness for their win in 2009. Bobby loved taking photos at the concerts, events and locations that he went to with Amanda, his family and his friends. Photos and memorabilia held a special place in his life and he loved to display them. Bobby had an extremely generous nature. It wasn't unusual for him to see something in a store or at yard sale and buy it for a family member or friend who he thought would like it. He was very giving. Bobby is loved and missed by: his wife Amanda Dowdy of Atascadero; his parents, Bob and Barbara Dowdy of Paso Robles; his brothers Bill White of Atascadero and John Dowdy of Katy, Texas; his sisters Darlene Parissi of Paso Robles and Tamera O'Malley of Paola, Kansas; his sisters-in-law Maggie White of Atascadero and MarieAnne Dowdy of Katy, Texas; his nephews TJ Hammons of Pflugerville, Texas, and Chad Watkins of Arcadia; his niece Priscilla Hammons of Carrollton, Texas; his niece-in-law Melissa Hammons and great nephew Lucas of Pflugerville, Texas; his niece and nephew Courtney Mackey and Ethan Rys of Katy, Texas; his mother-in-law Cyndi Maier of San Luis Obispo; his father-in-law Mike Danvir of Kingman, AZ; his grandmother-in-law Shirley Chamberlin of San Luis Obispo; supportive men in his life, Rusty Watkins and Kevin Herrera; his best friend since childhood Paul Jackson of Arroyo Grande; his good friend Evan Gates; his coworkers and friends Don Headley, Mark Williams, Pan Esquivel, and Michelle Herber; multiple family members in Texas and many people whose lives he touched in some way. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Bobby's name. The Shriners Hospitals helped Bobby with a serious health issue as a baby. Without the help of the Shriners, Bobby would not have enjoyed 42 years of life. Robert "Bobby" will be missed every minute of every day. www.shrinershospitalsforchilden.org
