Walter Adolph Kiel was born April 8, 1927 on the family farm in the Ardill district of Saskatchewan. The last surviving child of Emma and Adolf, Walter passed away, with family by his side, on June 6, 2023, at age 96. Growing up Walter worked on the family farm tending to the cows and pigs. He attended school only ½ mile away – walking uphill both ways! (Ha Ha). When he was 19 he tried to get a job with the railroad but found out he was colorblind so he went back to farming. He purchased a quarter section from Ernest McGruther which was on the same section that he was born. Walter met and married Eleanor Playter on February 11, 1956. They raised their family with good old hard work and love; he insisted they all get a good education. Four children survive Walter: Shirley Kiel, Deanna Palmier (Terry Heglin), Phillip (Sheila), Gregory and their families; sister-in-law Eva Kiel, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife, Eleanor (Playter), daughter Gladys, son-in-law Harvey Palmier, three infant siblings; siblings: Lydia (George) Milton, Olga (Peter) Okraincee, Albert (Wilma), Arthur (Wally), Elsie (John) Morin, Irene (Alfred) Jan, and Percy. Peace be to his Memory. Funeral Service was held Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10:30am at Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK. Pastor Sarah Mowat officiated. Tribute presented by granddaughters, Reverend Sarah Urano; scripture reading by Jaclyn McGill; prayers led by Colin Palmier; special music ‘Will the Circle be Unbroken’ presented by Reverend Gregory Kiel (guitar) and Reverend Sarah Urano.
