Tillie Duncan of Coronach, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully March 07, 2021 at the Ross-Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan just two and a half weeks away from her 94th birthday.
Tillie Duncan (nee Krall) was born March 26, 1927 at Limerick, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Mildred Krall. In 1928, the family moved to the East Poplar district after a cyclone came and demolished some buildings and the crops were 100% hailed. Tillie attended Cow Creek School where she learned English since her first language was Czech. Tillie later attended high school in Regina since Cow Creek School did not offer higher-grade education. Tillie did not finish her education in Regina and returned to Coronach to work with her parents at the “Krall General Store” when they needed help. Tillie did complete her high school education by correspondence after her children left home to complete their post secondary education.
Tillie married William Ross Duncan April 16, 1946 and they built their home next door to her parents in the village of Coronach. They had two children a son Leslie born 1949 and a daughter Joan born 1950.
Tillie was involved in the community activities, as were all the other people. Tillie would volunteer to help the school with sports days in the 1950’s. Tillie was a member of the United Church Women and the Coronach Agricultural Society. Tillie also was an exhibit competitor at the Coronach Agriculture fair and one year exhibited her canned pickles at the Toronto Winter Fair. Tillie was a judge at community fairs and was a 4H judge at achievement days for sewing. Tillie was a founding member of the “Drop In Centre for Seniors” in Coronach. Tillie was a member of the Legion lady’s organization and served as president for many years. Tillie was a member of Saskatchewan tourism. Tillie took classes to become a certified tour guide with Saskatchewan tourism and was a sought-after tour guide for the Big Muddy tours. Tillie enjoyed people and spent more than thirty years as a tour guide for the Big Muddy tours. Many days during the tourism season Tillie would take out tours a couple times a day.
Tillie and her husband Willie built a farm site from scratch by building a new house and planting many trees and starting many gardens in 1955. Tillie would sell eggs and chickens she raised to the hospital and town people for extra money to supplement her income. After Willie passed away in 1999, Tillie looked after the farm by repairing and painting the buildings until she sold the farm site in 2010. In 2009, she received Century Farm award for Duncan family owning SW23-02-27 W-2nd for 100 years. Tillie and husband Willie spent many years wintering in Mesa, Arizona. One year, Tillie being a competitive person, was Arizona State Champion in floor shuffleboard.
Tillie enjoyed travelling and toured Australia on a farm tour. Tillie toured Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic in 2005 and while there visited her cousins in the Czech Republic. Tillie enjoyed visiting and keeping in touch with her cousins in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
Tillie always looked forward to family gatherings at holiday time when her legendary dumplings were a sought-after staple at the dinner table by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tillie cooked for Christmas, Easter and thanksgiving dinner until last year.
Tillie was predeceased by her husband William in 1999, her father Joseph Krall in 1980, and her mother Milada (Mildred) Krall in 2003.
Tillie is survived by her son Leslie (Peter Jones) and daughter Joan (Lawrence Warken); 3 grandchildren Quentin Warken, Preston Warken (Marsha) and Renee (Randy Elder); 8 great-grandchildren Talsa Warken, Torri Warken (Shelby Brooks), Trista (Tyler Jonescu), Brittan Warken, Karsten Elder, Kylin Elder, Khanesia Warken and Bodyn Warken; 3 great-great-grandchildren Jeslyn Brooks, Nyla Brooks, and Everly Jonescu.
Funeral Service was held at the Coronach United Church, Coronach, SK, Friday, March 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Linda Kirby officiated. Pallbearers: Preston Warken, Randy Elder, Karsten Elder, Gary Duncan, Merv Colibaba, Jack Janzen. Tribute presented by Talsa Warken. Interment at the Coronach Cemetery.
