With great sadness we announce the passing of Tessie Fluto (Chaloupka) on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Grasslands Health Centre, Rockglen, SK at the age of 100 years, two months short of “101”. Predeceased by her husband Reuben in 1962, father Karl Chaloupka, Uncle Tom Chaloupka, two sisters, Christine and Frances and brother Carl. Tessie leaves to mourn her sons Les (Yvonne) and Ken (Nancy), daughter Shirley (Albert) Dahlman, one sister Mary Richardson, five grandchildren: Ryan (Leslie) Dahlman, Devin (Christianne) Dahlman, Scott (Shanty) Fluto, Melanie (Claude) Theriault and Leanna Duncan, twelve great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Tessie was born June 13, 1913, in Regina, SK, eldest daughter of Karl and Anna Chaloupka. She started school in Kea School and then travelled six miles one way to school in Assiniboia by horse drawn van, with a cutter in the winter. After leaving school, she worked for many different people in town and around the country. Tessie married Reuben Fluto on October 23, 1933. They farmed west of Scout Lake for a number of years before moving into Scout Lake so Les and Ken could go to school. Tessie was active in the Anglican Church in Scout Lake and Rockglen. She was president of the Scout Lake Ladies Club and Scout Lake Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School in her home in the winter months. She worked for Adam Lanoie in his store in the 50’s and Scout Lake Co-op for about 20 years under different managers. She was well liked and always had lots of company. We remember her having lots of spunk, loved to laugh, joke and tease people. In later life she travelled with her sister to California, Hawaii, Germany, BC and parks in Saskatchewan. In 1992 Tessie moved into a cottage on Jubilee Crescent in Assiniboia where she resided for about 18 years. She enjoyed the Anglican Church in Assiniboia, gardening, knitting, birthdays, teas and her grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Ross Payant Nursing Home in the afternoons. She then moved to Grasslands Health Centre in 2010 until she passed away. Funeral Service was held Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK. Pastor Larry Glaeske officiated. Scripture readers were: Lynn Sangster, and grandchildren, Ryan and Melanie. Tribute was delivered by sons Ken and Les, memories shared by grandsons, Ryan and Devin and poem read by great-granddaughter, Courtney. Pallbearers were: Clark Kwasnicki, Wayde Ager, Ryan Dahlman, Devin Dahlman, Claude Theriault, and Jason Wiker. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial donations were received for Rockglen Health Care Auxiliary Memorial Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
