Raymond Nelson of Coronach, SK passed away May 6, 2017 at the Coronach Health Centre with family at his side. Raymond was born November 20 in 1915 to James and Margaret Nelson. He was the youngest of 7 children: Myrtle, Albert, Eldred, Howard, Chester, Elizabeth and Raymond. He went to school at Cow Creek (six miles south of Buffalo Gap, SK). After finishing school, he farmed at Cow Creek and later at Buffalo Gap. He married Irene Hickson in 1941 at Coronach and later moved to Wells, BC where he worked in a gold mine. A couple of years later they moved back to Buffalo Gap to take over the farm. He also worked for the CPR and numerous other jobs. He spent his whole life trapping and hunting. He was an avid gardener. He loved to play his Gibson guitar and sing country songs. He was a good artist and painter. In February of 2010, due to ill health following cancer surgery, Raymond went to live at the Coronach Health Centre. He lived there for seven years and was very well taken care of by the wonderful staff there. Raymond was predeceased by his parents James and Margaret, daughter Gail Irene Aust (June 5, 2012) and son in-law Ron Kirby (November 6, 2003). He is survived by his loving wife Irene, children; Deanna (Jim) Van Alstyne, Janet Kirby, James (Debbie) and Kim, son in-law Ron Aust; grandchildren Clayton, Chad, Nicole, Jennifer, Jarrod, Travis and Zane; great-grandchildren Tad, Haley, Jace and Aven; great-great-grandchildren Lincoln and Maeve. Graveside Service was held at 10:30 am, May 11, 2017 at Buffalo Gap Cemetery, Coronach, SK. Family friend Hans Zoller officiated. Pallbearers were Travis Nelson, Zane Nelson, Chad Aust, Jarrod Kirby, Clayton Van Alstyne, Tad Aust and Ronnie Aust. Tribute was given by Jennifer Kirby. Donations in memory may be made to the Coronach & Area Health Care Foundation for Long Term Care. Arrangements under the direction of Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
