Patrick Joseph Franks

March 17, 1934 – August 23, 2022

Patrick Joseph Franks was born March 17, 1934 to Joseph and Mary Frank in Assiniboia. Pat grew up on the farm in the Scout Lake district and went to the Maissoneuve School which was a French school until grade 8. In 1952 he went to Edmonton to seek work and brother in law Don helped him find a job hauling oil equipment. From 1956-1961 Pat welded on the pipelines in Alberta for various companies. Pat met Loretta Popescul in 1960. Pat loved farming and ranching at Killdeer and Scout Lake. Pat and Loretta married in 1964, lived in Assiniboia, moved to the Killdeer ranch in 1968 and then in 1972 moved to Scout Lake. They began building their forever home in 1974 on the home quarter by Scout Lake. They had 2 children, a daughter Patricia and son Shane. Pat enjoyed working the cows, riding horses, driving semi, welding, playing guitar and country western music. He was very proud of his Chet Atkins signature edition electric Gretsch guitar. He particularly liked Buck Owens as a country singer and Pat enjoyed having jam sessions with John Sabourin. Pat and Loretta retired to Assiniboia in 2016. Pat was a family man who enjoyed spending time with the family and felt that his grandchildren were ‘precious cargo’.

Pat passed away with his family at his side on August 23, 2022.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Loretta (nee Popescul); daughter Trish (Mark) Heagy, son Shane (Tammy); five grandchildren: Shyla (Craig), Kaci (Ryan), Christina (Tyvan), Tyler and Wade. Also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Popescul and Emma Franks, brother-in-law Al Polson, nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Frank; brothers Mike, John, and Joey; sisters Angelina and Mary; their respective spouses.

No funeral services will be held as per Pat’s wishes.
