ORVILLE EDGAR DAHL of Assiniboia, SK, passed away at the Assiniboia Union Hospital on Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 at the age of 92. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laura Dahl of Assiniboia, SK; his children Beverley Dahl of Kelowna, BC and Roger Dahl (Jade) of Viceroy, SK; grandchildren Kendra (Ryan) Molitwenik of Vernon, BC, Lara Scott (Nick), Carlin Dahl of Viceroy, SK and Julie Ann Dahl of Moose Jaw, SK; great-grandchildren Jacob and Benjamin Molitwenik, Ethan and Sheridyn Scott. Orville is also survived by his brother Arne Dahl of Souris, MB. He is predeceased by his parents Ed and Inga Dahl; grandsons Joel Dahl and Stephen Voldeng, daughter-in-law Holly Dahl and grandson-in-law Adrian Scott as well as sisters Hazel Larsen, Lyla Lovick and Norma McKague. Born July 11, 1918 at Viceroy SK Orville lived and farmed most of his life in that community, leaving only to serve as a Flight Engineer in the Royal Canadian Air Force from May 1942-Jan 1946. On June 29, 1946 he married Laura Reid at Gladstone, Man. They returned to Viceroy where he eventually took over operation of the family farm which had been homesteaded by his father in 1906. While farming, he held several positions with Sask Wheat Pool, as a Committee member (1946-1960), a Delegate (1959-1980) and a Director (1980-1984). He enjoyed participating in his community as a board member of the Viceroy Co-op, Viceroy School, Viceroy Credit Union and St Olaf Lutheran Church. When their son Roger joined the family farm in 1982, Orville and Laura moved to a new home in Viceroy where they lived until retiring to Assiniboia (Westside Court) in Oct. 2007.One of the highlights of Orville’s life was when the farm reached Centennial status in 2006. Even when retired, he was a farmer at heart. Orville and Laura would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June 2011. Orville loved spending time with family. His grandchildren remember his quick wit and his ability to laugh at himself. He was always ready to play a game of cards and spent many happy hours at the Viceroy “Drop-in”.Special thanks to Dr. Carulei and the staff at Assiniboia Union Hospital for the care and attention to our “Grandpa” in the past few months. And thank you to all the friends who have called, visited and shown support. Memorial donations may be made to Assiniboia Union Hospital (South Country Health Care Foundation) or a charity of your choice.
