Marie Anna Shenher passed away peacefully at the age of 86 surrounded by family on September 8, 2018 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. While her mind was resilient, allowing her to know us all and be present to those who were with her, her body was much affected. The last days were hard, but she was comfortable and there were many blessings. Marie is survived by her children Terence (Pat), Brenda, Anthony (Angela), and John (Marion); grandchildren Clayton, Megan (Jace Angell), Magdalena, Monica (Jordan Hunt), Matthew (Janelle Waslen), Justine, Tara and great-grandson Wyatt. She is also survived by her siblings Margaret, Carl (Carol), and Loretta (Dan), and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. Marie was predeceased by granddaughter Mary, husband Jacob, parents Mathias and Eva (Ruschiensky) Kesslering and sister Helen. Marie was born July 2, 1932 in Bengough, SK and grew up on the family farm between Viceroy and Horizon, SK. She attended Surprise Valley School and finished high school in Viceroy. During her teen years, she was a big help to her parents on the farm, and to her siblings helping get them to school with the horse and buggy. One of the highlights of high school was playing the alto saxophone in the Viceroy school band. After high school, she and Jacob Shenher began dating and were married June 2, 1953 at St. Cunegunda parish in Horizon. They began their life on the family farm northwest of Viceroy. Soon children came and her days were filled with parenting, homemaking, sewing, gardening, chores, and harvest help. Summers meant hard work, but winters involved recreation, visiting with neighbours, family and friends, playing Schmier, Bridge and other card games, curling, and square dancing. Marie was involved in the church, joining the CWL in 1953 and teaching catechism. Marie was very proud of her 65 year membership pin from the CWL this year, a major accomplishment for her. In 1989 Marie and Jacob moved to Assiniboia and she became active in St. George’s parish, singing in the choir and serving in the CWL. She enjoying bowling, cards, camping, visiting friends and family, and was especially delighted when her children and grandchildren visited. In January 2014, Marie moved to the Prairie Villa; then in March 2016 relocated to St. Volodymyr Villa in Saskatoon to be closer to family. Due to limited mobility, she moved to St. Joseph’s Care Home in May 2016 where she resided until her passing.
