Marge, of Assiniboia, SK, passed away January 10, 2013 at the age of 94 years. Marge was the fifth child of David and Pearl Birss. She was born on the family farm in the Limerick area on June 15, 1918. She attended Rothsay School in the Limerick area. Marge married Bill Erfle on October 21, 1944. They lived on the family farm till fire destroyed their home in 1953, at which time they moved to Assiniboia. Marge was a lifetime member of the Order of the Royal Purple and the Eastern Star. She was an avid sports fan and devoted cheerleader of the Assiniboia Junior Southern Rebels. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1988, and daughter Gail Edwards in 2005. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Helen Kraus, Bessie Hawkeye, Jessie Courtnage and brother Marshal Birss. Marge is survived by three sons: Lyle (Janice), Barry and Terry; grandchildren: Nikki, Devin, Sheldon, Stephen, Jarrad and Drew; great-grandchildren: Shana, Taylor, Clayton, Merrick, Sophie and Emerson. Marge is also survived by her sister Irene McKenzie and sister-in-law Ruby Birss as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Marge’s life was held on Tuesday January 15, 2013 (according to the United Church of Canada) at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK. The Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiated. Pallbearers were grandchildren: Devin Erfle, Sheldon Erfle, and Stephen Erfle; great-grandchildren: Shana Hawkins, Taylor Hartness and Clayton Rondeau. Shana Hawkins and Taylor Hartness gave the tribute. Honor Guard was formed by the Royal Purple, Assiniboia Lodge #73 and the Assiniboia Southern Rebels Junior B hockey club. Music was supplied by Scott Heatcoat. Donations in Memory of Marge can be made to South Country Health Care Foundation – Assiniboia Union Hospital.
