Larry Klein, age 59, passed away January 15, 2012, at Assiniboia Union Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Larry was born September 4, 1952 in Assiniboia to Lloyd and Anna Klein. Larry grew up on the family farm at Viceroy, attended Elementary School in Viceroy and High School in Assiniboia. After graduation, Larry worked for Tips Tires in Assiniboia for two years, then began farming with his Dad and took over the family farm when his parents retired. In the last number of years Larry had worked for farmers in the area and the R.M. of Excel.
Larry married Fay (Scott) Shenher in 1979 and built a new home on the farm in 1981, where they have since resided. Larry, known to many as Tiny, was active in the community, served on the Viceroy Co-op Board for 34 years, the Viceroy Credit Union Board, and was a past Knights of Columbus member and a past Elks Member. Larry’s passions were curling in the winter, camping in the summer, especially at Tompson Lake, with family and friends. He loved big game hunting, pheasant hunting in the States, snowmobiling, socializing, and a good game of cards. He was a Saskatchewan Rough Rider season ticket holder, an ardent hockey and baseball fan, which he played hockey and ball in his younger years.
Funeral Mass was held January 18, 2012, at George's Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, with Father Joy Montiague celebrant. The readers were Gail Kesslering, Melanie Alex, and Sharon Adams, cousins of Larry’s. Urn bearer was Grandson, Zach Shenher, and the tribute was given by long time friend Keith Zabolotney. The organist, Gail Delorme, was accompanied by St. George's Parish Choir. Private Family Interment at a later date.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Fay, father to Karen, Nancy, and Scott (Dawn) Shenher and Grandfather to Zach and Cassidy Shenher; mother Anna, brother Dale (Gwenda), their children Kelly and Trina, sister Sally (Raymond Karst), mother-in-law Emma Scott, and numerous relatives and friends. Larry was predeceased by his father, Lloyd, father-in-law Max Scott and Julia Engstrom, (Zach's mother). Donations in Memory of Larry may be made to the Assiniboia Union Hospital (South Country Health Care Foundation), The Allan Blair Cancer Centre (Saskatchewan Cancer Agency), or the Huntington Society of Canada. Arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
