

John Paterson, of Willow Bunch, SK, passed away May 10, 2013 at age 91. Predeceased by his parents James & Mary Paterson, siblings: Will, Margaret, Jim, Mary and David, brothers-in-law George Scandrett and Bill Redwick and sister-in-law Jean Paterson, John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jacqueline, step-sons Ross (Debbie) and Raymond (Connie), step-daughter Jeannette Campbell; grandchildren: Ryan (Nicky) Shentaler, Casandra (Jess) Frame and Kent (Allie) Campbell; great-grandchildren, Norah and Willie Frame; sister Ann Scandrett; sister-in-law Brenda Paterson; brother-in-law Bernard (Christine) Merrien as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
John was born January 27th, 1922 in Poppletress, Throsk Farm, Scotland. His parents and five children immigrated to Canada in 1925. In the spring of 1926, the family moved to the Willow Bunch district. John attended country schools, Leulla School and Berg School. He worked at carpentry before he joined the air force when World War II started. He was stationed in Gander, Newfoundland working as a mechanic on war planes. When the war ended, he came back home and farmed in the Willow Bunch district. He played baseball, curled, and also enjoyed cards, cribbage, bridge, poker and many more. John was a faithful Legion member, was a Mason and a member of the Hills of Home Seniors Club. He did a lot of repairs and fixing at the senior centre and never wanted to be paid. He was also willing to help anybody if they needed something repaired. He was a carpenter and built many houses, garages, quonsets and furniture. He always kept busy. In the evening he would sit in his chair with the pet cat.
Funeral Service, according to the United Church of Canada, was held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 in St. Ignace R.C. Church, Willow Bunch, SK. Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiated. Memories were shared by Elizabeth Fulton. Honor Guard was formed by members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Willow Bunch Branch #287. Pallbearers were: Kevin Merrien, Roger Philippon, Hewitt Pulfer, Neil Montgomery, Hugh Paterson, and Ron Paterson. Music Ministry was provided by the Willow Bunch Church Choir. Donations in Memory of John may be made to the Hills of Home Seniors Club, Willow Bunch, SK. Interment followed at the Lakeview Cemetery, Willow Bunch, SK. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
