A gardener at heart, Mother sowed the seeds,
Waiting patiently for growth and beauty amongst the weeds.
Her flowers were not only those that spring from the soil,
She gained many simple pleasures from her toil.
They were the Girl Guides hiking along,
And Woodboia campers singing their songs.
The children at Sunday School learning to pray,
And the neighbors and friends with stories to say.
Her family gathered round her table of home grown,
Cherished and nourished from the seeds she’s sown
We all felt the blankets of her love and concern
Warding off life’s frosts, corners and turns.
Mother’s garden blossoms in those she held dear
Family and friends, take comfort, she’s still here.

Irma Grace Lunney was born January 16, 1930 and raised on the family farm at Milden, Saskatchewan. She survived a bout of Tuberculosis as a child and knew early on that life was a gift for which we must be grateful. She taught in several one room schools, near Outlook, at Eyebrow, Esterhazy and Tugaske before coming to McCord. Here she met and married Les Wilson in 1956 settling into the farming life and helping to build what we would later come to call Wilsonville.
Irma enjoyed the traditional rural women’s activities and work- growing a garden, the Ladies Aid Quilting bees, and community meals, The UCW, teaching Sunday school and leading Girl Guides. Another of her true passions was Camp Woodboia acting as counsellor, committee member, and camp director over the years.
In 1996 Irma and Les moved to Assiniboia for a new adventure getting to know new neighbors, bowling, swimming and enjoying having a library right there that she could walk to whenever she liked.
Irma battled and won against Breast Cancer and lived with Diabetes for over 25 years. In the past 3 years, living at the Assiniboia Union Hospital Integrated Facility, and before that at Prairie Villa, often remarked that she was very well cared for and was very content. Our family is so grateful for the cheerful attitudes and wonderful care they gave her, and to Eleanor Mcginnis for being her faithful, frequent visitor.
Irma passed peacefully on Sunday October 23rd, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Helen Lunney, her siblings Doris, and Russ, her grandson Aaron, and daughter-in-law Laura, in-laws, Harold Wilson, Elsie and Jim Wilson, and Janet and Harry Mather, She is lovingly remembered by her brother Milt (Ruth) Lunney, her children Earl, Phil and Helen (Murray); grandchildren, Rebecca (Brent), Cameron (Jennifer), Travis, Drew and Andrea, great-granddaughters Callie and Katie, in-laws Edith, and Bill and Audrey Wilson, and Edna Lunney and numerous nieces and nephews.
Although she lived in Assinibioa for twenty years, McCord is home and we are thankful for the support from that community where her life will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 1:30 PM McCord United Church.
