I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Gerry. He was truly a patriarch of your family. 
I do remember many an evening visiting the ranch with my parents while the adults played several rounds of whist and I played with the girls either in their rooms or downstairs. 
And yes I do remember his crazy wit and sense of humour.  He lived a great life. May he rest in peace.

The lessons on punctuality; ready to ride at dawn meant exactly that!  Perseverance; if you’re not knocked out, get back on!  Determination; that calf is coming out of those bushes one way or another.  Gratitude; no meal or drink ever tastes better than one earned though hard work.  Most of all though we learned to enjoy the work, the stories, the laughter and the fellowship.   He will live large in our memories always.
