It is with great sadness, the family of Dorothy Janet Andrews (nee Elder), announces her passing at the age of 91. Dorothy was born September 6th, 1926 in Scobey, Montana to Nellie Florence and William Harold Elder. She grew up on the family homestead west of Coronach, Saskatchewan, along with four younger siblings. Upon graduating Grade 12 she attended Normal School in Regina. Over her 42 year career in education she taught in seven different schools. She married John Clifford Andrews in 1950 and they farmed in Coronach. Over the next 38 years they raised three children on a mixed farm. Summers were always busy with visits from family, nieces and nephews. One of the fondest memories is Aunt Dorothy’s fried chicken. Dorothy’s passions were her huge garden and flower beds. She continued her teaching career not only educating but taking great pride in helping her students be successful. In 1988 Clifford passed away and Dorothy and Waydon moved to their new farm in Kennedy. Many family members and local neighbours helped in a multitude of ways. Dorothy remained on the farm until she married Harold McQuitty in 2001. During her time in Kennedy she made many jams and jellies which she sold at the Red Barn at Kenosee. Dorothy was very active in the United Church her entire adult life and her faith remained strong. She stayed busy volunteering with many organizations, dancing and spending time with new friends while being devoted to her family. They stayed in Kennedy until their move to Kipling and eventually, to the Kipling Long Term Care Centre. Dorothy passed away peacefully with family at her side at the Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital in Regina on August 14, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Florence, husband Clifford, brother Bruce, son-in-law Lorne, several brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews and a niece. She will be greatly missed by children: Lorraine Wettstein, Maureen Andrews (Darrel) and Waydon (Dee); granddaughters Pamela, Jennifer (Heith), Angelica (Brock) and Stephanie (Brook) and great-granddaughters: Mae, Zayne, Jovie, and Selah; second husband Harold McQuitty; sisters Joyce Mitchell and Ruth Fuson, brother Larry (Sylvia) Elder, sisters-in-law Kathleen and Dorothy and brother-in-law Robert as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held at the Coronach United Church, Coronach, SK on Saturday, August 18th at 1:30 pm with Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiating. Interment took place in Coronach Cemetery, Coronach, SK. Dorothy would like to be remembered for the help she gave her family and the community. The family would like to give a special thank you to her many caregivers over the years; especially to all the Kipling Long Term Care staff who helped make it her true home and the Palliative Care Unit staff at the Pasqua Hospital.
