The family of Clarence Montgomery are saddened to announce his passing on September 28, 2022. Clarence was the fifth son of six children born to Edward "Ed" Brown Montgomery and Maria Clara Vallee, born March 14, 1942 at his parents home southeast of Willow Bunch.
Clarence was predeceased by his parents Ed & Maria; brothers: George, Donald, Elmer and Jerry; sister-in-law Rosalie Montgomery and nephew Vincent Montgomery.
Clarence is survived by his children; Lisa (Virgil) Cairns, Christine (Dave) Schenk, Dawna (Brian) Barker and Jeff Montgomery; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren; the mother of his children Irene Montgomery; sister Judy Potts; brother-in-law Lance Potts and sister-in-law Eleanor Montgomery as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dad attended Lautier School a mile from home. After working at a neighboring farm for a year, Dad attended high school in Willow Bunch. He then went out into the world and worked on the pipeline which took him from Cochrane to Rocky Mountain House, through Crowsnest Pass to Cranbrook B.C. and finally from Swift Current to Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan returning in 1962 to begin farming and working as a drywaller. Dad also was an assistant grain buyer for U.G.G. and later for Sask Wheat Pool at Willows, Sask.
Dad always worked with his hands be it farming or construction and he used his skills to build our family home in Willow Bunch, which the family moved into a few days after the birth of his son Jeff in 1976. Dad was an entrepreneur at heart; besides farming he had his own gravel truck, "Cat" business and then built the Stage Coach Motel and Restaurant in Willow Bunch, which opened for business in 1983, a family business that required all hands on deck. The Stage Coach was sold in 1990 and though it has changed hands and name over the years, almost 40 years later the motel is still in operation. Dad worked as a drywaller in Calgary and then returned to Willow Bunch where he worked as a crop adjuster for Sask Crop Insurance. Dad retired and eventually settled in Moose Jaw, SK.
Dad loved to drive because along the way there were many stops and chats with different people; whether dad was hauling a load of grain, waiting for a shutdown crew to return late at night at the Stage Coach, or adjusting a field with a farmer there were many conversations, laughs and friendships made. Life was his highway and dad made many miles.
Goodbye dad until we meet again, we love you.
