He is survived by his loving wife Shonnie (St. James), and children Nicholas Carroll, Zachary (Joanna) Carroll, McKenzie (Jeffrey Sutton) Carroll grandson, Danny and sister, Monica Nelson.
Tom spent his youth as outdoor enthusiast becoming an Eagle Scout and hiking the Grand Canyon three times with his father. He was also an accomplished swimmer and tennis player. Despite his unconventional and creative personality he graduated from LaSalle Catholic High School. He started his career introducing and installing ATMs. He continued working with ATM IT systems throughout his 28 year career with Bank of America.
Tom had endless hobbies and interests, often claiming the title “jack of all trades and master of none.” He had a special passion for anything automotive; from designing, and custom paint jobs to fabrication, and tinkering with classic cars to his own race car. He was a talented pen and ink artist and loved to share personalized cartoons with his coworkers and friends.
While Tom enjoyed his hobbies, his favorite times were spent with his family. Tom loved to travel and vacation with his wife of 34 years and would make any excuse to spend time with her. When not running errands with his wife, he loved taking his family to Disney World.
Tom loved seeing his children grow and succeed in their pursuits. He traveled with Zac to art shows and races to showcase Zac’s artwork. Tom and Zac worked side by side to build a race car to drive together during the Sebring 500. Tom made sure to be front row for any of McKenzie’s events from dance recitals to college graduation.
Even with his busy schedule, Tom always looked forward to December. He loved being a part of the Santa community and wore the red suit as often as possible. He brought countless magical memories and joyful moments to children young and old, all around Virginia.
While he was only with us for 64 years, he impacted the lives of everyone he met, and we are grateful for every moment he shared with us.
