On Wednesday, June 15, 2016 Sharon Mitchell Gore died peacefully surrounded by her family. Sharon was fiercely independent and lived her life with generosity, kindness and a fun loving spirit that ultimately defined her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kristi and Phil Hebner and two amazing grandchildren Riley Katherine Hebner and Bryce David Hebner.
She is also survived by her twin sister Karon Mitchell Rorrer and her brother and sister-in-law David Mitchell and Billie Sue Mitchell. She was a dedicated “Shay Shay” to her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children. She “learned Facebook” so that she could follow along with the amazing adventures of her nieces Jamie Rorrer Ochoa and Shelley Mitchell Starkey and nephews Todd Rorrer and Brad Mitchell. She was a gifted storyteller and passionate cheerleader for her loved ones - joyfully celebrating each success and offering a shoulder to cry on during life’s challenges.
Sharon was born seaside at the Naval Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, the beloved daughter of Paul and Charlene Mitchell. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, West Virginia with the class of ’63 and attended Marshall University where she studied business. Her life’s adventures took her from a picturesque childhood along the Tygart River in Arden, West Virginia to the sunny shores of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In 2002, she moved to Richmond, Virginia to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. We will be eternally grateful for this move as it afforded Riley and Bryce countless hours of her humor, storytelling and love of game night.
Rather than flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Ovarian Cancer Coalition, www.ovarian.org, a charity close to her heart. Rather than a single memorial event, the family plans to celebrate her life by gathering together at the two bodies of water she held most dear.
