In case you think you are reading my obituary, you are not. You are reading about my home going. My name is Robert Dowdy, I passed away on January 6, 2015 at the age of 72 and I am now at home with Jesus and my loved ones who went before me. I leave behind the love of my life, my wife of 49 years, Shelby Dowdy; my half-sister, Debbie Yancy (Lee); two beloved aunts, Naomi Hubbard and Lois Young; a niece, Michelle Scott (Sonny); a great niece, Katelyn Scott; and a great nephew, Justin Scott. Of course I also leave behind numerous cousins and great friends. I worked for the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation for 15 years and I was the owner of Montpelier Plumbing for 30 years. I served in the Army in Alaska. You can come see me from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy. Ashland, VA 23005. There will be a private burial at Riverside Baptist Church cemetery. A Celebration of my Life will take place at 11am on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the church.
